Spyware is not a virus. Your anti-virus program will not protect you against spyware. Spyware is picked up by even the most cautious websurfer. The term spyware covers a whole host of programs that can make your computer slow. Some can track you while you websurf and make pop-up adds on your computer. They steal your from your computers internet connection and power by downloading advertising and running the ads and clogging up your hard drive. They can hijack your webpages and a certain kind can divert your dial up so that you don't call your regular ISP but their own -very expensive- ISP.
This guide will show you how to install SpyBot S&D on your computer. It is one of the best anti-spyware programs out and is completely free. Click here to download SPYBOT S&D.

Double click on the SpybotSD icon on your desktop.

A security warning might pop up asking if you want to run this file. Click "Run"

The next screen ask you to select setup language. Most people here leave it at english and click "OK".

Welcome to setup for Spybot Search and Destroy. Cilick "Next".

The license agreement is the next screen. You must click the "I accept the agreement", then click the "Next" button.

The next screen (shown below) will ask you where you want to install Spybot SD to. I usually just click "next".

The next screen will ask you to select the components to install. Uncheck the "Separate Secure Shredder application" so your screen looks like the one below, and click "Next".

The next screen will ask you to select a start menu folder. Just click "Next"

Now we are being asked to select additional Task for spybot to perform on your computer. We will unselect "Use Internet Explorer protection" and also unselect "Use system settings protection" so your screen looks like the one below. Now click "Next".

Finally we are ready to install Spybot SD on your computer. Click the button labeled "Install".

The next screen (shown below) will show the progress of installing spybot to your computer.

The next screen will tell you that you have completed installing Spybot SD on your computer. Click "Finish". It may take a minute but Spybot is loading up on your computer.

Now a window of Legal stuff pops up. I usually click "Don't show this warning again" and click "OK" to progress to the next step.

The spybot S&D Wizard window will appear on your screen asking if you want to create a registry backup. If you want to you can but I usually do now and just click the green arrow labeled "Next".

Now the wizard will ask if you want to Search for updates. Click the bar labeled "Search for updates".

Another window will pop up so you can select your download location from a list of them. I like the "Safer-Networking" ones in Europe. Select one of the sites and click "Continue".

The updater will ask what updates you want to download. I usually make sure they are all selected and click "Download" next to the green arrow pointing down at the bottom of the window.

After the updated have been downloaded, a little window will pop up telling you to re-apply the immunization after the update. Click "OK"

Click "Exit" at the bottom of the Spybot S&D updater window.

Now you should be in the SpyBot S&D program. Click on the little shield on the left of the window labeled "Immunize".

The window will change and SpyBot S&D will immunize your computer to alot of common problems. When SpyBot is done click the little icon od a file with a magnifying glass over it labeled "Search and Destroy".

I usually click "Check for Problems" right away.

When you use SpyBot S&D in the future, remember to update it before you check for problems.
